Betty Jean Wilkerson Clayton

Betty Jean Wilkerson Clayton, 83, of Roxboro, passed away due to a sudden illness on March 11, 2021.
Mrs. Clayton was born Sept. 6, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas Gorman Wilkerson and Mary Janet Gray Wilkerson. After graduating from Aycock High School in Cedar Grove, she began her banking career of 46 years until her retirement from First Union/Wachovia in 2001.
After retirement, Mrs. Clayton enjoyed traveling with her soulmate, Rhudalph “Skinner” Clayton, and beloved husband of 50 years. Visiting and serving others in the community was a regular occurrence as well as working in her yard, especially planting flowers. She shared the love of dancing with her husband and a multitude of treasured friends who often gathered for lunch or dinner. She was an active member of Somerset Baptist Church and over the years served on various church committees. Her church family was a constant source of happiness and strength throughout her life.
She is survived by a daughter, Michelle Day and husband Glenn; a son, Brent Clayton and wife Kimberly; and three grandchildren who she absolutely adored: Clayton, Mary Grayson, and Priscilla. She is also survived by two brothers, Larry Wilkerson of Mebane, Nicky Wilkerson of Mebane, and a sister, Linda Mace of Durham.
A private burial will be conducted prior to a memorial service scheduled for March 27, at 2 p.m., at Somerset Baptist Church.
