Attempted robbery on South Morgan Street sends man to hospital

An attempted robbery on South Morgan Street Monday night ended with a man being treated for a gunshot wound.

According to Deputy Chief Jimmy Hawkins of the Roxboro Police Department, Andre Lee Stacey, 32, of 987 Snatchburg Road, Milton, was walking down South Morgan Street when two black males approached him.

The men attempted to rob Stacy who was shot in the thigh during the interaction.

Hawkins said officers were not called to the scene, but instead were dispatched to Person Memorial Hospital where Stacey was being treated for his gunshot wound – around 6:30 p.m.

Hawkins said Stacey got to Person Memorial on his own and the report that he has received from his officers doesn’t indicate if Stacey has been released.

Hawkins said the incident is currently under investigation.
