ROUGEMONT – Annie Mae Carden McBroom, 89, of Rougemont, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 at her home. Born in Orange County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur David Carden and Ella Jane Walker Carden. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Claborn Ervin McBroom; infant daughter, Judy Kay McBroom, who is laid to rest in Indianapolis, Ind.; siblings: Luna Woods, Billy Carden and Myrtle Kiger; son-in-law, Steve Pendergrass; infant great-grandchild, Zeph Michael Taylor.
Mrs. McBroom retired from Liggett and Myers in Durham. She was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church. Mrs. McBroom loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed shopping, dancing, listening to music and doing word search puzzles.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara McBroom Pendergrass of Rougemont; three granddaughters: Tammy Taylor (Mike), Jamie Jerome (Andrew) and Stephanie Coons (Dwight); eight great-grandchildren: Chad Vaughn (Kiara), Tristan Coons, Kaylee Pendergrass, Tyra Coons, Kaleb Pendergrass, Taryn Coons, Kaysen Jerome and Jacob Jerome; two great-great grandchildren: Kylie Vaughn and Colt Vaughn; sister-in-law, Doris Kiger of Caldwell; longtime friend, Sue Aiken of Rougemont.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021 at the Brooks & White Chapel with the Dr. M. David Chambers officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Taylor, Dwight Coons, Andrew Jerome, Tristan Coons and Kaleb Pendergrass.
